Collection. 1852-1957.

Genealogical materials compiled and gathered by Paul Debaillon on the family of Jean Mouton, founder of Vermilionville, now Lafayette, Louisiana. These include notes, charts, correspondence, vital records, and primary material created by some family members. Debaillon was also interested in local history especially politics and the Lafayette Diocese of the Catholic Church. The political material deals with the Know-Nothing Party, the Attakapas Vigilantes, Reconstruction, the White League, and the anti-lottery effort of the 1890s. The collection also includes some papers from Mary Swords Debaillon, a local horticulturist.
